Tennis brand Fred Perry has launched three new styles of knitwear using British wool. British Wool is based in Bradford and is owned by approximately 35,000 sheep farmers in the United Kingdom (UK). It collects, grades, sells and promotes British Wool to the international wool textile industry for different use in flooring, furnishings and apparel.
“We are proud to have three knitwear pieces made using British wool for our Q4 2021 collection: the Fair Isle Jumper, the Panelled Jumper and the Cable Knit Jumper,”Faye Waterfield from Fred Perry, said.
“Our Cable Knit Jumper is a chunky adaptation of our original tennis jumper. Before becoming a smart staple of the British sub-cultural uniform, our classic V-neck jumper was originally designed for warming up on the tennis court. The perfect frame for the collar and button placket of a shirt, the V-neck was also worn as a statement of classroom rebellion. Like their older siblings, the kids wore the Laurel Wreath to bend the rules, without breaking them,” explained Perry.

The wool in all of the products is grown in the UK; the products are made in a new, state of the art factory in Haringey, North London, Fred Perry said in its press release.
“We are delighted to have worked with such a prestigious brand as Fred Perry on this new exciting range of 100 per cent British wool products. It is a great example of genuine British wool being used by a premium brand on the high street,” said Graham Clark, director of marketing at British Wool.
