Governor of US state New York Kathy Hochul recently announced a partnership with IMG, producer of the New York Fashion Week’s (NYFW) central event, ‘NYFW: The Shows’, to encourage growth in the creative industry sector of the state. The state will provide complementary access to iconic show venues for NYFW this September season. New York is the US fashion capital. "The fashion and creative industries in New York are critical drivers of economic growth and tourism and they have been hit especially hard by the pandemic. New York is the US fashion capital.# Three New York-based fashion designers—Prabal Gurung, Cynthia Rowley and Victor Glemau—were scheduled to host their shows at the historical state venues, honouring and celebrating New York's recovery. Gurung’s show was held on September 8, Rowley will host her upcoming collection debut today, and Glemaud will host his collection debut on September 12. The New York Fashion Week celebrates New York and its surrounding creative industries as the capital of fashion, both on a domestic and global stage. The public and private sectors are working together to support small businesses affected while restoring and creating new jobs for New Yorkers, the press release said. In May this year, IMG formed the IMG Fashion Alliance to create a cornerstone for NYFW's revitalisation and aid in the recovery of New York's fashion and retail industries following the devastating impact of the pandemic. Through the programme, IMG has provided support, funding and resources for 11 of NYFW's independent designers: Altuzarra, Brandon Maxwell, Jason Wu, LaQuan Smith, Markarian, Monse, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Sergio Hudson and Telfar.
